Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner

St. John Fisher University Wegmans School of Nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and registered with the New York State Education Department (NYSED). Per CCNE guidelines, the graduate level courses address advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) care content specific to the role and population focus of the program.

Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible for New York State and national certification. Other states may require national certification as part of state certification or licensure. Students will be eligible for examination to earn national certification as an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AGPCNP-BC) via the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or as an Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Certification (A-GNP) via the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB). Scope of practice, exam eligibility, background checks, and coursework requirements outside the scope of the program may vary by state. Prospective and current students are encouraged to research the requirements for licensure or certification specific to their current or intended state of practice to ensure that our program meets their state licensure requirements.

The program currently meets the Nurse Practitioner requirements for New York state. Outside of New York state, other states may have additional or different requirements for licensure. Please see this list of Education Licensure Contacts by state to determine specific requirements and eligibility.
