The Primary Care Family Nurse Practitioner program is offered through the Wegmans School of Nursing at St. John Fisher University, which is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Online Primary Care FNP Curriculum
The Wegmans School of Nursing integrates rigorous coursework with hands-on clinical experiences to prepare confident family nurse practitioners who are ready to serve diverse communities.
Coursework
All four of our programs include 30 credits of scholarship core and direct core coursework to help you master the key skills needed by all nurse practitioners. The online Primary Care FNP program continues with 16 credits of specialty clinical core coursework focusing on concepts that are specific to family nurse practitioners.
These specialized courses prepare you to care for patients of all ages, and cover:
- Addressing common health problems through evidence-based practice
- Evaluating, diagnosing, and managing health challenges that are relevant to different populations
- Patient education, advocacy, and diagnostic reasoning skills

Clinical Rotations
You’ll gain hands-on experience working with patients through 600 hours of clinical rotations in your own community. Fisher’s clinical placement team works with students to help secure clinical placements within their region.
During these experiences, you will perform exams, prescribe treatment, order diagnostic tests and more under the supervision of an advanced practitioner. Primary Care FNP rotations may take place in settings such as community health centers, private practices and hospitals.
On-Campus Immersion
You’ll visit our campus in Rochester, New York, for one pre-clinical immersion. Immersions are opportunities to practice critical nursing skills hands-on, experience our renowned nursing facilities, and strengthen your connections within the Fisher community.

Assistant Professor Corey Jackson is an ANCC-certified family nurse practitioner with experience in acute medicine, hospital medicine, primary care, and higher education. After earning his Doctor of Nursing Practice, he began his career in higher education and opened a primary care office focused on serving underserved populations in Rochester, New York.
