Admissions standards for Fisher Nursing Online share our on-campus program’s high standards of excellence. We are looking for candidates who are committed to impacting the nursing profession, with the educational background and determination to succeed in our program and beyond.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university, a current unencumbered RN license, one year of current experience in a clinical setting, and be currently employed as an RN in a clinical setting to qualify for admission.

Application Requirements

The Fisher Nursing Online application consists of the following items:

  • Online application;
  • Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions;
  • Two letters of recommendation (Note: we will not accept letters from friends, family, or non-healthcare supervisors):
    • At least one professional reference from an advanced practice colleague (NP preferred; CNS, CRNA, PA, MD, or CNM acceptable) who can speak to the quality of your nursing work, professional conduct, and potential for success in an advanced practice role.
    • One professional reference from a nursing supervisor or nursing clinical leader prepared at the masters or doctoral level who can speak to your professional conduct, nursing performance, communication and leadership skills, and potential for success in an advanced practice role.
    • All letters of recommendation are submitted electronically through the application process.
  • Recorded interview via the Kira Talent Platform
  • A current résumé.

Recorded Interview

Applicants will be required to complete a recorded interview as a part of the application process. Interviews will be recorded, conducted, and submitted via the Kira Talent Platform. The interview provides applicants with an opportunity to clearly articulate the nurse practitioner specialty role to which they are seeking admission, showcase their clinical and professional background experience, share their goals and objectives. And show they are highly motivated and prepared to pursue the rigorous program of study.

Work Experience

Applicants must have at least one year of current RN clinical experience at the time of application, be currently employed as an RN in a direct care clinical setting, and have a current unencumbered license in the state in which they are employed and intend to complete your APRN clinical experiences.

In addition, our specialized pathways require additional work experience detailed below.

  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP): Applicants are strongly recommended to have experience in mental health care.
  • Adult/Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP): Applicants must hold current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification and have a minimum of one year of current hands-on acute care clinical experience.

Undergraduate GPA and Prerequisites

Admission consideration is for applicants with a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher, with preference to applicants with a GPA of 3.3 or higher.  Additionally, applicants must have a grade of B or higher in the following undergraduate courses:

  • Health Assessment
  • Research

A grade of C or higher in the following undergraduate course:

  • Statistics

International Applicants

Non-native English speaking applicants are required to submit TOEFL scores. The minimum accepted scores on the TOEFL are:

  • 575 paper-based
  • 233 computer-based
  • 80 Internet-based

Results of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) are also accepted. The minimum acceptable IELTS score is 6.5.

Note: Foreign students who have received their undergraduate degrees from institutions in the United States are exempt from the TOEFL and IELTS.

In addition to submitting TOEFL or IELTS scores, international applicants must send transcripts from international institutions to an evaluation service such as World Education Services for a course-by-course report.
