Admissions standards for Fisher Nursing Online share our on-campus program’s high standards of excellence. We are looking for candidates who are committed to impacting the nursing profession, with the educational background and determination to succeed in our program and beyond.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university, a current unencumbered RN license, one year of current experience in a clinical setting, and be currently employed as an RN in a clinical setting to qualify for admission.

Application Requirements

The Fisher Nursing Online application consists of the following items:

  • Online application;
  • Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions;
  • Two letters of recommendation are required from APRNs (NP, CRNA, and/or CNS) at your current place of employment:
    • Recommenders must have the ability to evaluate your clinical work and speak to your clinical abilities that align with your program of study;
    • If you cannot meet this requirement because you do not work with APRNs, you may select individuals you currently work with who are qualified at the master’s level or higher in nursing. If needed, one reference may be from a physician and/or a physician assistant;
    • If your references are not from two APRNs, you are required to submit an application addendum to explain why you are unable to meet the recommender requirements. No academic references will be accepted;
  • Recorded interview via the Kira Talent Platform
  • An updated résumé.

Recorded Interview

Applicants will be required to complete a recorded interview as a part of the application process. Interviews will be recorded, conducted, and submitted via the Kira Talent Platform. The interview provides applicants with an opportunity to showcase their clinical and professional background experience, demonstrate their preparedness for a graduate nursing program, and share their goals and objectives. 

Work Experience

Applicants must have at least one year of current clinical experience at the time of application, be currently employed as an RN in a clinical setting, and have a current unencumbered license in the state in which they are employed and intend to practice as a registered professional nurse.

In addition, our specialized pathways require additional work experience detailed below.

  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP): Applicants are encouraged to have clinical experience in this specialty.
  • Adult/Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP): Applicants must hold current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification and have a minimum of one year of current acute care clinical experience.

Undergraduate GPA and Prerequisites

A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 is considered minimally competitive, but most students accepted to the program have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher. Additionally, applicants must have a grade of B or higher in the following undergraduate courses:

  • Health Assessment
  • Research
  • Statistics

International Applicants

Non-native English speaking applicants are required to submit TOEFL scores. The minimum accepted scores on the TOEFL are:

  • 575 paper-based
  • 233 computer-based
  • 80 Internet-based

Results of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) are also accepted. The minimum acceptable IELTS score is 6.5.

Note: Foreign students who have received their undergraduate degrees from institutions in the United States are exempt from the TOEFL and IELTS.

In addition to submitting TOEFL or IELTS scores, international applicants must send transcripts from international institutions to an evaluation service such as World Education Services for a course-by-course report.
